Alan Newman founded ANR in 1978 after years of experience in both academia and business. After completing his Ph.D. at the State University of New York at Buffalo, he served as an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Kentucky prior to founding ANR. Under Alan’s leadership, ANR remains committed to delivering reliable, accurate, valid, and smart market research.
Jack Fyock is President of ANR. Jack has over 25 years of market research experience, which he draws upon as he designs, oversees, and executes ANR studies that employ a mix of qualitative and quantitative research methods. Much of Jack’s work concerns the development of consumer-based communication and messaging strategies across various industries and particularly in healthcare. Jack, a RIVA-trained moderator, obtained his Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Maryland. He has published work in peer-reviewed journals related to consumer reactions to healthcare quality and value as well as perceptions of Medicare programs.

Amanda Frail is a Richmond native who joined ANR in 2007 after graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in mathematical sciences. In her current role, Amanda manages ANR’s team of quantitative project directors and stays up to date on industry trends, implementing new methodologies and strategies for conducting research with hard-to-reach audiences. She especially enjoys tracking and ongoing studies, as well as measuring advertising effectiveness, and is an active member of the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR).

Dan Hough is a senior consultant at ANR. In that role, he provides guidance to staff and clients on research planning and analysis. He was President of ANR for 22 years and was actively involved in managing projects and moderating. Dan is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Business School.
Hugh Martin came to ANR in 1995 after several years in public accounting. A Certified Public Accountant and James Madison University accounting graduate, Hugh manages ANR’s financial reports, as well as various human resources, compliance, and legal matters.
Valerie Lask started at ANR in 1988, just after graduating from University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce where she concentrated in marketing. During her 30+ years at ANR, Valerie has held many positions, and as our Vice President of Qualitative Research, she spends her time managing qualitative projects and conducting in-depth interviews on a wide variety of topics, with a particular focus on executive and professional audiences.
Kinsey Gimbel came to ANR in 2020 after spending nearly 20 years in Washington, D.C. conducting applied research as a federal contractor. A RIVA-trained moderator and active QRCA member, she has a keen interest in exploring new possibilities in qualitative research and recruitment, and in conducting research that helps support our most vulnerable populations. Kinsey has a bachelor’s degree in history and sociology from Guilford College, a Master of Public Administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a graduate certificate in survey design and data analysis from the George Washington University.

Jill Kubichan joined ANR in 2017 after spending the better half of a decade working in the market research sector as both a project manager and research analyst. Jill holds a Master of Science from Virginia Commonwealth University and a bachelor’s degree from Randolph-Macon College. Jill has extensive experience managing research initiatives involving academia, branding, community development, customer experience, customer satisfaction, and product development and testing.
Scott Shepard joined the ANR team in 2011. He is a graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in marketing management and of VCU with a Master of Science in decision analytics. As a senior project director and RIVA-trained moderator, Scott oversees all phases of ANR's qualitative projects — from project design tailored to clients' needs and recruitment, to data analysis and reporting.
Catherine Wright joined ANR in 2000, not long after graduating from the College of William and Mary in 1998 with a degree in English. After seven years at ANR in Richmond, Catherine relocated to the San Francisco Bay area, where she continues to be an integral part of the company. As Senior Project Director and RIVA-trained moderator, she manages qualitative projects, moderates focus groups and IDIs, and, over the years, has developed a particular focus on qualitative analysis and reporting.
Born and raised in Virginia, Katie Kollman joined the ANR team in 2022 after obtaining her bachelor’s degree from Randolph-Macon College. She double-majored in criminology and sociology and has a particular interest in how marketing techniques impact consumer behavior and perception. In her role as a Quantitative Analyst, she supports ANR’s quantitative project directors behind-the-scenes by combing through data sets for quality and analysis purposes as well as report writing.
A native to Virginia, Jamie Marklin joined ANR’s quantitative team in 2021. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the University of Virginia, and upon graduation, moved to New York City to spend several years on Wall Street as an analyst. Her extensive background in detailed analysis and presentation creation, as well as her love for statistics, makes her a wonderful fit in the world of market research. In addition to managing one of ANR’s long-term contracts with a national nonprofit organization, Jamie supports ANR’s project directors with data analysis and report writing.
Jack Nicol joined ANR in 2023 after 5 years as a senior analyst conducting political polling. He is a graduate of the College of William & Mary, where he obtained a degree in Political Science. He has experience managing large, long-term tracker studies and message and brand testing. As project director, Jack manages the needs of clients and oversees all stages of the project lifecycle.
Teresa joined ANR in July 2022 after graduating from the University of Richmond with a bachelor's degree in Psychology and minors in Business Administration and Dance. As a Qualitative Analyst and RIVA-trained moderator, she supports project directors in all stages of qualitative research. With a special eye for detail, Teresa has a particular interest in data analysis and reporting.
Jesse Lohr joined ANR’s qualitative team in 2023. She is a University of Mary Washington graduate with a master’s degree in education and a bachelor’s degree in anthropology. Her research experience includes conducting ethnographic research and CATI phone surveys. Prior to joining ANR, Jesse enjoyed a variety of roles — including business ownership and management, conducting environmental survey-based research, and teaching. Her teaching and research background makes her a great addition to our qualitative team.
Brenda Tarczynski joined ANR in 2011. Since graduating from Georgia Southern University with a bachelor’s degree in printing management, she has enjoyed a variety of roles in teaching, printing, and advertising. Brenda is currently ANR's Recruiting and Field Management Specialist and is also a RIVA-trained moderator. Along with managing recruiting, Brenda conducts in-depth interviews as well as supports ANR’s project directors with analysis and reporting.
Lori Combs joined ANR in June 2017. A New Jersey native, Lori graduated from Montclair State University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Her career has included many administrative and technical support roles, including IT help desk administration, executive support, and office management. As ANR’s Assistant Project Director and Office Manager, she supports qualitative project directors with scheduling, documentation, and analysis and helps to ensure that the entire team stays organized.
Beryl Spain came on board in 2002, and is a Virginia State University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and extensive experience in healthcare administration. Prior to joining ANR, Beryl held a series of positions marketing and managing home healthcare and physician education programs. She later went on to earn a Master of Public Health from Eastern Virginia Medical School. Beryl moderates focus groups and conducts interviews with consumers and professionals for clients in the healthcare, government, and nonprofit sectors.
